PKMK as he’s better known within the industry, is a consummate hotelier with 40 years plus of operations experience. He has had extensive international exposure in key markets such as New York, London, Maldives and Colombo.

In addition to General Manager positions across various hotels in the Taj Group his career includes many positions of business leadership in growth geographies such as Kerala, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Sri Lanka.

Besides expertise in hotel operations he was a key member of the leadership team assigned the task of identifying growth markets, project management, pre-launch and launch of hotels. His cross functional expertise in the hotel sector has branded him as the “go to person” for turnaround challenges of under-performing assets.

Responsible for the foray of the Taj Group into the mid-market segment with the maiden Gateway in Bangalore, he later went on to then become the COO of the entire Gateway portfolio of hotels and resorts with 20 plus hotels subsequent to the Group’s brand architecture restructuring.
His four decades of experience with the Taj Group spans all brands, ranging from Luxury, Upper Upscale, Upscale and Economy and was engaged both in the operations and strategic aspects of the business.

Rishad in his four decades in the hospitality business has had extensive Indian and International work experience, starting his career at the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in Bombay. Later, he worked at The Royal Hotel, Copenhagen Denmark (S.A.S. Hotels International). Following this he worked as a chef in various free-standing restaurants in northern Italy and France. He was later served as Executive Chef & Manager F&B Operations with the iconic West End Hotel, Bangalore from 1981 to 1984, and followed as General Manager Operations & Projects in the In-Flight Catering and Restaurants division of Spencer International Hotels, India.

As a Hospitality Consultant for nearly 30 years, Rishad has provided Consulting Services in the areas of Feasibility Studies, Concept development, Facility design and Project Implementation for Hotels Resorts, Restaurants, Clubs, Bars & Pubs, Bakeries and large-scale catering & In-Flight Kitchens. He has also had engagements developing master-plans for integrated tourism infrastructure developments and for hotel evaluation studies for the GOI, DOT and Banks

In addition, Rishad has extensive knowledge of Wines, Beers & Spirits and has had wide-ranging experience with gourmet culinary and menu design and Wines & Spirits business development.

In 1992, Rishad turned hotel-entrepreneur, investing in & hands-on in implementing the build and fit-outs for the highly successful Highgates Hotel, Bangalore. He then was Managing Director for over the following 10 years for this very first ‘Boutique Hotel’ in Bangalore.

Among his other business activities from 1987 onward for over next 17 years, he owned and managed a company providing catering services to Industrial units and corporate lunch rooms, serving over 6000 persons per day.

Since 2003 on he has been full-time engaged in hospitality consulting on varying assignments. More lately he was principal consultant and instrumental for the design, construction and project implementation for the very successful Escape Hotel in Indiranagar in Bangalore.
